Today, most homes focus on things we can see and hear, while smell is often overlooked. Tareks idea explores how scent can become an active part of everyday life, supporting moments of relaxation, focus, wellbeing, and social connection.
The idea
Today, most homes focus on things we can see and hear, while smell is often overlooked. Tareks idea explores how scent can become an active part of everyday life, supporting moments of relaxation, focus, wellbeing, and social connection. The goal is to make the home feel more personal, responsive, and alive.
The person
Tarek recently graduated from Malmö University with a bachelor’s degree in interaction design. He is especially interested in sensory design and how scent can be used as a design material.
Through his studies and projects, he has explored how scent influences emotions, behaviour, and the way people interact with each other. He enjoys turning research into practical ideas that can improve everyday experiences.
The reason to join
Tarek applied to Home of the Home Lab to explore how this idea could develop into a real product and create value in people’s everyday lives. He sees the programme as an opportunity to learn from experienced mentors, test the idea with users, and better understand what people need in their homes. He is also motivated to be part of a community working with new ideas connected to life at home.
Programme period
Autumn 2026.
