The idea

Algen is a material-driven project exploring the potential of biodegradable textiles made from brown algae within furniture design. By transforming brown algae into yarn through an iterative development process, Dimana investigates sustainable alternatives to conventional textile production.

The algae-based yarn is hand-woven into seating furniture, showing how material innovation can be integrated into functional design without compromising usability or aesthetics. Dimana is a designer working with product development, material innovation, and sustainable production processes. Her work explores the intersection of design, functionality, and environmental responsibility.

She is especially interested in how materials and manufacturing methods can be reimagined to create more sustainable products and systems. Alongside this, she is drawn to craft-based practices and explores how traditional techniques can inform contemporary design solutions.
