Election 2026
This year we had elections to parliament, regional assembly, and municipality assembly. Election Day was Sunday, September 13, 2026. On this page we publish information on regular basis until we have a result.
The counting of votes
The counting of votes at the polling stations is open for all to observe.
- After the closing of polling stations on election day all votes are counted in each polling station and then reported to länsstyrelsen. This is called preliminary counting because all votes are to be counted once again at county administrative board (Länsstyrelsen).
The preliminary voting can be followed through media or on the website of the electorial authority (Valmyndigheten). - On the wednesday after the election day (September 16th) it is the so called "wednesday counting". Any votes not counted on the election day are counted on the this day.
- Then the votes are handed to the county administrative board (Länsstyrelsen), who count the votes once again, including the personal votes. It can take up to two weeks before the results for all three elections are counted and determined.

Efter the election/counting of votes
The seats (mandates) in the municipal assembly are distributed according to the results of the municipality elections. After the election, to be able to govern the municipality, the parties that got mandates in the municipality assebly tries to find a political majority that has over 50 % of the mandates.
When the parties has found a solution of the political leadership the coming four years the municipality assembly selects a municipality board, boards and corporate boards. The municipal assembly elects both full members and alternates.
To be a member of a municipality board or other boards, a person must be over 18 years old and resident in the municipality.
