Global Play Day Brings Fun and Learning to International School of Älmhult

On Wednesday, 4th February, our school celebrated Global Play Day, a special occasion that highlights the power of play in learning and wellbeing. This year, the event coincided with Animal Dress-Up Day, making the day even more joyful as students arrived in creative and cozy animal costumes.
Students brought their favourite board games from home and shared them with peers and even teachers teaching strategies and learning from one another. Play quickly became a way to connect, collaborate, and build friendships across classes.
Some of our MYP students volunteered in PYP classes for an hour, planning and leading fun activities alongside teachers. It was inspiring to watch students of different ages learning, laughing, and playing together, side by side.
Fun Activities for Everyone
The day included a variety of engaging activities: board games, musical chairs, colouring sessions, and even face painting, all led by students and supported by teachers. Everyone had the chance to participate, discover new games, and enjoy moments of creativity and teamwork.
What Students Are Saying
Students were full of enthusiasm and reflections about the day:
“We should have playday everyday.”
“We could play basketball with the MYP 5 students.”
“MYP were very kind to us, and some of them are funny.”
“It was nice to bring toys and games to school.”
“We were not bored; it was a fun day!”
“I liked that we had colouring with MYP 3 students.”
“Musical chairs with MYP was fun.”
“It was nice to have face painting with MYP students.”
“I liked that I could play board games with my teacher.”
Global Play Day reminded us all of the importance of play in learning, collaboration, and well-being. It was a day full of laughter, creativity, and connections that brought our whole school community together.
