What is the Personal Project?

The Personal Project is a student-centered, independent research project where MYP 5 students delve into an area of personal interest over an extended period. This capstone experience allows students to consolidate their learning and develop skills crucial for their future education and life beyond the classroom. It fosters confidence, critical thinking, and lifelong learning while reinforcing MYP core concepts such as international-mindedness, communication, and reflection. Additionally, students enhance essential skills like time management, research, and problem-solving.

The journey to completion is both challenging and rewarding. Students navigate the process by engaging in thoughtful planning, reflective learning, and consistent documentation in their Personal Project reports. The project consists of three key components:

  1. Product or Outcome – A tangible or intangible result demonstrating what the student aimed to achieve or create.
  2. Process Journal – A record of ideas, criteria, developments, challenges, research, possible solutions, and progress.
  3. Report – A structured account of the project, its impact, and achievements, including a bibliography and evidence from the process journal. Reports are initially moderated by teachers at ISÄ and later reviewed by external IB examiners who award final grades.
