Algebra in Action: MYP2 Students Visit Växjö

legobild

Our MYP2 Mathematics students recently travelled to Växjö for a field trip organised by Region Kronoberg, visiting EPIC – Innovation & Technology Centre and the Engineering and Architecture Department at Linnéuniversitetet.

At EPIC, students explored the robot lab, built a robotic arm using LEGO Spike Prime, and controlled an industrial robot hand. At the university’s material testing lab, they investigated the strength of steel, concrete, and timber beams.

The visit connected directly to their current Algebra unit, showing how variables and formulas are applied in real-world engineering. Students also learned that even advanced engineers start calculations by hand — reinforcing the importance of developing strong mathematical thinking before relying on digital tools.

It was an inspiring day where algebra truly came to life.
